Padma Vibhushan
In May 2008 Sachin received the Padma Vibhushan from President Pratibha Patil. Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh were among other dignitaries gathered at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi to see the awards being presented, but it was Sachin who received the warmest applause: he is the first cricketer to receive the honour.
MCA’s silver bat
In 2001 the Mumbai Cricket Association presented a 10kg silver bat to master blaster Sachin Tendulkar in recognition of his feat of scoring 10,000 runs in Limited Over Internationals. Sachin was also presented with a cheque for Rs 2.51 lakhs by NCP leader Sharad Pawar to honour him for being awarded the Maharashtra Bhushan Award (see below). The ceremony was held in Wankhede Stadium, where Sachin began his illustrious career.
Maharashtra Bhushan Award
On his 28th birthday, on April 24, 2001, Sachin got a surprise present when he was given the Maharashtra Bhushan Award by the Cultural and Affairs Minister Ramkrishna More. Mumbai’s favourite son added another feather to his cap when he was given for the prestigious award which included a citation and a cash prize of Rs 5 lakhs.
Padma Shri
The Padma Shri is a civilian honour which is awarded by the Government in recognition of distinguished contribution in a particular field or activity. Sachin received the Padma Shri in 1999, presented with it by the President of India, Shri K.R. Narayanan in a very special function at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna
Sachin was awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, India's highest recognition in sports, in 1998. From the time of its institution in 1991, Sachin was the seventh sportsman to receive the award, which constitutes of a scroll of honour, a plaque and a cash sum of Rs 1 lakh.
Arjuna Award
Instituted in 1961, the Arjuna Award is given annually to honour sportsmen. The award constitutes a cash prize of Rs 50,000, a bronze statuette of Arjuna and a scroll. Sachin was presented with the Arjuna award in 1994.
